Abstract(s)
Introdução: A Mutilação Genital Feminina, ou MGF, coloca em risco, todos os anos,
mais de dois milhões de mulheres. Torna-se, por isso, necessário erradicar esta prática
que a ONU considera uma violação dos Direitos Humanos.
Objetivos: A presente dissertação teve por foco principal o levantamento das
possíveis complicações resultantes da MGF. Pretendeu-se reunir informação que
permita identificar os casos de MGF, abordar clinicamente as suas consequências
imediatas ou de longo prazo e contribuir para a sua prevenção e erradicação.
Metodologia: A presente monografia foi desenvolvida com base numa pesquisa
bibliográfica realizada entre os meses de fevereiro e setembro de 2021 nas plataformas
PubMed, ScienceDirect (Elsevier) e RCAAP.
Resultados e Conclusões: Foram identificadas as principais complicações
resultantes da MGF que se podem agregar nos tipos genito-urinários, obstétricos,
psicológicos e sexuais. Concluiu-se que os profissionais de saúde desempenham um
papel fundamental na prevenção da MGF, que deve assentar em cinco pilares: criação
de legislação, estabelecimento de diretrizes de orientação clínica, investigação,
educação, e intervenção comunitária.

Objectives: This dissertation had as its main focus the survey of possible complications resulting from FGM. The aim was to gather information to identify FGM cases, clinically address its immediate or long-term consequences and contribute to its prevention and eradication. Methodology: This monograph was developed based on a literature review carried out between February and September 2021 on the platforms PubMed, ScienceDirect (Elsevier) and RCAAP. Results and Conclusions: The main uro-gynecological, obstetric, psychological and sexual complications resulting from FGM were identified. It was concluded that health professionals play a fundamental role in the prevention of FGM, which must be based on five pillars: creation of legislation, establishment of clinical guidelines, research, education, and community intervention.
