Abstract(s)
The main objective of this study was to understand the association of spirituality and optimism in cancer patients, aged 18 years or over. In this way, a systematic literature review (RSL) was achieved according to the PRISMA model, to reduce the risk of bias in the results obtained. To this end, it was used scientific articles available in Web of Science, Scopus and PubMed databases, between 2007 and 2021. This review included six quantitative studies that met our inclusion criteria. There is consensus among most authors about the influence of spirituality on cancer disease, especially on the quality of life of these patients. The other authors defend the need for further studies to conclude the association. The same happens with optimism, some studies defend its importance, while others postulate that it depends on the stage at which the disease is. Four of the six studies show a positive association between spirituality and optimism in cancer patients at different stages of the disease. They, also, reveal an association between the variables in promoting a more positive experience of the disease, highlighting the importance of these variables in the healthrelated quality of life of patients. Is highlighted, in this way, the importance to invest in studies about the influence of the two variables on adaptation to the disease, and also point to the need for develop more research about the association of the variables.
