Abstract(s)
The consequent aging population associated with an accelerated pace of life and increasing demands for families, they increasingly often are unable to meet the needs of the elderly, leading to their institutionalization. This process leads to the abandonment of its old space known and lived, in which the individual feels some difficulties often compounded by the fact that traditional institutional care, not having appropriate technical and social responses to the different needs and conditions of each elderly who the result in social exclusion. Nowadays there is a concern about the role of the elderly active and as a citizen who is required to ensure fulfillment of their rights and ensure dignity and quality of life. With the demand for quality of life and recreational clubs, associations, which help keep the elderly active physically and mentally. In Portugal are known for some initiatives directed senior tourism, but it is unknown whether the existence of such a service to institutionalized elderly, with more specific characteristics and needs. Thus arises the idea of the project, directed the implementation of tourism for autonomous seniors residing in nursing homes and attending day centers to provide a better quality of life and inclusion in society. Guarda district was chosen as the starting point for this project, not only for convenience but rather the researcher to belong to one of the most aged of Portugal. The project has gone through a series of steps, starting with problem identification and diagnosis of the situation, which sought to have a more comprehensive view of the phenomenon and theoretical knowledge and the practical reality where they want to act. In 2nd stage proceeded to define the objectives. In Step 3 held strategy selection by linking objectives, resources and capabilities through intervention. As a last step comes the planning of activities related to the objectives. Although the project is presented based in the District of Guarda, the basic idea can (and should) be replicated to other territories, which may allow the development of more synergies between the various actors involved.
