Abstract(s)
Portugal has a large thermal architecture, as well as many thermal fountains; the same is true throughout Europe. However there are a few studies and analyzes of its architectural recovery, there are several publications on the existing thermal complexes, but a few develop ways and solutions for the recovery of its buildings, demonstrating strengths and weaknesses. This dissertation aims to fill a little humbly this lack. Begins the theme of Heritage thermal Resorts, reflecting on the importance of the already built in the local identity of the building as well as the identity of the society, that lives there, which revises traditions, culture and history in the relevance of the preservation of the built. The legislation is boarded in the general concept, using the foundations of the Heritage Act, in order to understand how it is managed and protected. In the following section we focus on the Thermalism theme, to understand the activity and needs that require this functionality through the inside of the building. The Portuguese thermal architecture is treated in the way of reviewing the benefits of their recovery, as well as strategies and objectives to achieve through this. We analyze the relevant national and international thermal complexes for the case of study, the Baths of the Valley of the Cucos. Finally we analyzed the thermal baths to requalifying, and in the end, we proceed to the presentation of the proposed redevelopment of the same.
