O espaço urbano contemporâneo apresenta-se em constantes alterações, de modo a
tentar dar resposta às diferentes necessidades das populações, que também elas se vão modificando. As populações tendem a fixar-se cada vez mais nas periferias, arrastando consigo os diferentes serviços, levando ao abandono e degradação dos centros históricos.
Estes espaços, de grande importância histórica e cultural, passam assim a ser locais desvalorizados pela população e consequentemente cada vez mais degradados quer em termos de edificado quer em termos de espaço público. Para combater este intensivo abandono, os centros históricos têm vindo a ser o objecto de estudo e de preocupações crescentes no domínio arquitectónico e urbanístico.
Esta dissertação incide sobre esta problemática, assentando sobre o tema da
reabilitação urbana dos centros históricos, de modo a entender as causas e consequências
deste progressivo abandono, para assim delinear medidas e propostas projectuais de desenho urbano para os espaços públicos e medidas arquitectónicas para os edifícios. Prende-se que tais medidas possam vir a contribuir para a fixação dos actuais e atracção de novos residentes assim como a dinâmica dos utentes que exercem a sua actividade neste local, nele passeiam ou visitam.
O principal objectivo é apresentar uma proposta de reabilitação urbana para o centro
histórico de Chaves que integra duas vertentes: medidas projectuais para os espaços públicos e medidas arquitectónicas para os edifícios. De modo a definirem-se medidas para revitalizar o centro de tão grande importância histórica.
The contemporary urban space presents itself in constant modification, so as to respond population's different needs, which in turn are also changing. Populations tend to fixate in the suburbs, dragging with them the different services, which lead to the abandonment and degradation of the historical centers. These areas of great historical and cultural importance are thus devaluated by the population, and, as a consequence, they become even more degraded, concerning construction and public areas. In order to fight this massive abandonment, historical centers have been the subject of study and increasing concerns both architectonic and urbanistic. This dissertation focuses on this issue, built on the thematic concerning urban rehabilitation of historical centers, in order to understand both the causes and consequences of this progressive abandonment, so as to define measures and projectual proposals regarding urban design for public areas, and architectonic measures for buildings. It is expected that such measures may contribute to the establishment of actual residents and the captivation of new ones, as well as the dynamic of the users that work, walk or visit this area. The main goal is to present an urban rehabilitation proposal for the historical center of Chaves, which incorporates two edges: projectual measures for public areas and architectonic measures for buildings, so as to define actions to revive the center of such historical importance.
