Abstract(s)
Background: Cultural differences and living realities in different countries and continents can be decisive in multidisciplinary training of human beings. At a time when individuality should be enhanced, it is important to know the differences so that planning and training are more targeted towards the development of the capacities of each individual accepting their differences. Objectives: To compare the fitness levels of students from PALOP countries with scores obtained by Portuguese students, aged between 15 and 20 years, identifying factors that may influence positively and negatively diverging results. Method: In a sample of 231 students (166 Portuguese and 65 PALOP) intermediate schools in Viseu, data were collected concerning physical skills of students using the application of the Fitnessgram test battery supplemented by a questionnaire. Results: There were generally significant differences in the Fitnessgram test battery for evaluation of fitness among Portuguese students and PALOP. The intersection of the results of the questionnaire with the physical fitness assessment showed a clear influence of the context, culture and the importance given to the body, this is, Portuguese students are more likely to sedentary behaviors and inactivity compared to PALOP . Conclusion: Considering the results, we consider it’s essential to understand the factors that influence the individual differences, to enhance the characteristics of each individual and their physiological complexity. It is urgent to guide learners in promoting a healthy lifestyle and to emphasize that the evolution characteristic of developed countries has contributed positively to the results of Physical Fitness.
