Abstract(s)
Obesity is a growing problem of public health, which has been reaching epidemic proportions, being children a group particularly vulnerable to this pathology, which is considered the most common disease in this age group. Favoring this weight status there are two key elements, an inadequate dietary intake and low levels of physical activity. Thus, a crucial aspect in the treatment of this pathology is the regular practice of physical activity, since this is essential for weight control. It becomes therefore important to understand how it can and should prescribe in this context. Objectives: Review the subject of physical exercise prescription on childhood obesity; Address the recommendations for the practice of physical activity; Know what are the types of activities and possible most suitable exercises for children, particularly for the overweight; Know what are the major benefits of regular physical activity, essentially in this age group with this pathology. Methodology: analysis of articles published on the subject, in the last 5 years, in the database of sites ebscohost.com and pubmed.com, in some organizations (World Health Organization, Direção Geral da Saúde, American College of Sports Medicine, European Childhood Obesity Group, Instituto Nacional de Saúde, World Obesity Federation, Federación Española de Medicina del Desporte and Associação de Empresas de Ginásios e Academias de Portugal) and government institutions (United States and United Kingdom). In order to complement the existing information extended the search for the last 10 years.
