O envelhecimento populacional gerou uma crescente necessidade de serviços
formais para pessoas idosas em situação de dependência. Esta revisão pretende explorar
a evolução/tendências dos cuidados gerontológicos em instituições residenciais e
descrever diferentes aceções e aplicações da Atenção Centrada na Pessoa neste contexto.
Da pesquisa efetuada em inglês, espanhol e português, nas bases de dados EBSCO–
PSY/ASC, Pubmed, Scielo, B-on e CINAHL incluíram-se 39 referências que foram
organizadas tematicamente. A evolução de instituições residenciais para pessoas idosas
originou uma diversidade de estruturas promotoras de cuidados tendencialmente
assistencialistas, padronizados e orientados para a eficiência. Estes cuidados
uniformizados apresentam, cada vez mais, sinais de esgotamento, impactos negativos na
saúde física e mental das pessoas residentes bem como a violação dos seus direitos e
autodeterminação. Neste seguimento, surgiram movimentos de melhoria da qualidade dos
cuidados tornando-os cada vez mais centrados na pessoa. A Atenção Centrada na Pessoa
possui múltiplas aceções: 1. filosofia de cuidados (abrange princípios e valores
orientadores de boas práticas); 2. modelos (integra concetualizações, componentes e
modos de avaliação) e 3. intervenções práticas (considera processos de mudança de
cultura organizacional, criação de alternativas de alojamento e estratégias que podem ser
incluídas nas dinâmicas das organizações). A Atenção Centrada na Pessoa é uma
tendência atual, configura uma abordagem multidimensional adaptável e promove a
qualidade dos cuidados gerontológicos.
Population aging has generated an increasing need for formal care to older people in a dependency situation. This study aims to explore the evolution and trends in care within residential institutions for older people and to describe different meanings and applications of Person-Centered Care in this context. From the research carried out in English, Spanish and Portuguese, in the databases EBSCO–PSY/ASC, Pubmed, Scielo, B-on and CINAHL, 39 references were included and thematically organized. The evolution of residential institutions for older people has resulted in a diversity of structures that promote the care that tends to be assistentialist, standardized and efficiency-oriented. These uniformed care shows signs of exhaustion and negative impacts on the older people, namely in their physical and mental health and in the violation of their rights and their self-determination. In this sense, there were movements to improve the quality of care, making them increasingly centered on person. PersonCentered Attention has multiple meanings: 1. philosophy of care (covering principles and values that lead to good practices); 2. models (integrating conceptualizations, components and modes of assessment) and 3. practical interventions (considering processes for changing organizational culture, creating accommodation alternatives and strategies/techniques). Person-Centered Attention is a current trend, representing an adaptive multidimensional approach and promoting the quality of care provided to older people.
