Abstract(s)
Tanto a filosofia antiga, quanto a filosofia moderna, concebem a actividade política como
algo que apenas pode ter lugar no quadro de uma pacificação original da sociedade (seja esta
considerada enquanto condição natural da vida comunitária ou enquanto ordem
artificialmente estabelecida). É contra este pressuposto que Maquiavel vai elaborar a sua
teoria do conflito, promovendo uma revisão da ideia tradicional de concórdia. O nosso
propósito com este estudo é acompanhar precisamente o modo como será reformulado o
problema da relação entre a divisão social e o estado ao longo da obra maquiaveliana, e em
particular através da leitura crítica da história romana realizada nos Discorsi sopra la prima
Deca di Tito Livio.
Both ancient philosophy, as modern philosophy, represent political activity as something that can only take place within the framework of an original pacification of society (considering it as a natural condition of community life or as an artificially established order). It is against this assumption that Machiavelli will elaborate his theory of conflict by promoting a revision of the traditional idea of concord. Our purpose with this study is to follow how the problem of the relationship between social division and the state will be reformulated throughout the machiavellian work, and particularly from the critical reading of Roman history carried out in Discorsi sopra la prima deca di Tito Livio.
