Abstract(s)
This M.Sc. Thesis presents in detail the fundamental characteristics of Lean Production, Six Sigma and Lean Sigma management philosophies, as well as their recommended methods for its installation in both industrial and service organizations. Combining the principles of classical industrial maintenance with Lean and Sigma philosophies, it is possible to obtain results of operation characterized by a continuous improvement, with a permanent optimization of the efficiency of assets, thus generating in this manner a new philosophy called Lean Maintenance, whose principles and ways of installation are also presented in detail. Taking into account that there are essential technical and economic items directly related to the adoption of these philosophies of continuous improvement and, sometimes, are not mentioned or considered when presenting the benefits of these philosophies, finally are described which items that should be presented to those organizations wishing to install these philosophies, in order to obtain conclusions on their cost-benefit.
