Abstract(s)
In a written text that evades the traditional standards and academic methodologies, we perform a reading that travels from the novel The Blood of Others, by Simone de Beauvoir, into a reflection on one of the central issues of the book: the inability to declare love to the other and complete experience of intimate feelings. The theme, as we will recognize, runs through the twentieth century, finding expression in various artistic objects, from literature to cinema, from theater to dance, from music to visual arts. From a sociological perspective, these years of world conflicts, of political repositions and manifestations for human rights’ universalization, questioned or made fleeting many of the marriages that no longer could be based on relations economic, moral or religious essentially based. Towards profound changes in ideals and dominant values, love was then revalued as the last of the commitments. Regardless of, in the essentially aporetic lines presented here, we do not propose final readings or ultimate justifications for resistance to words that announce new phases, lives or mutual promises. We start from a novel that mimics a common reality, diffused in various forms of artistic expression of the contemporaneity.
