Abstract(s)
A moda carrega histórias pessoais e
coletivas.
The present investigation work intends to explore fashion as a vector of knowledge and historical information, and understand the reasons behind criticism and stigma, which sometimes diminish their importance within society. The glamor portrayed by the media in fashion shows, the come and go of trends and excess consumption often hide one of its main strengths: its ability to tell the historical evolution and transformations that have been and are ongoing in societies. This investigation approaches the concept of fashion, makes the connection between its emergence as a reflection of movements in the structure of traditional societies, fashion as a form of expression of human individuality, the appropriation of the language of clothing as a form of communication, the impact of the consumption and spectacle societies in its development, and the importance nowadays of the advent of the internet and social media for its diffusion. “Like a river flowing through society”, fashion captures events within social, cultural, economic and political spheres, mirrors and transforms people's desires into clothing and accessories. Fashion carries personal and collective stories. A social phenomenon of great importance in modern culture, fashion still suffers from criticism that ends up leaving in the backgroud its relevance in the different spheres, from economy to the environment. This study is necessary because it allows the perception of fashion as a language and reflection of societies, going far beyond clothing and the cliché that presents the fashion world as a futile and capitalist consumer industry. What we intend to address is its informative relevance, the ability to tell the story and social changes through its set of signs. In an increasingly swipe and on-demand world, being able to transmit culture through fashion, something that is part of our daily lives, is yet another important tool in the transmission of knowledge.
