Abstract(s)
Na presente dissertação reflete-se sobre o papel do pátio na organização do espaço doméstico em habitações unifamiliares contemporâneas portuguesas, nomeadamente, em quatro obras do Siza Vieira. Haverá uma contextualização do tema abordando as influências da tradição recolhidas através do Inquérito à Arquitetura Popular Portuguesa.
O objetivo consiste em compreender de que forma esta tipologia habitacional, a
casa com pátio, poderá aumentar a qualidade de vida das famílias portuguesas,
respondendo às necessidades atuais da habitação e procurando resolver problemas
concetuais na génese da mesma.
É objetivo desta dissertação também, salientar a importância deste espaço de
múltiplas funções, procurando estabelecer uma relação entre a função do pátio num
todo que é a habitação unifamiliar da arquitetura popular portuguesa recorrendo a
alguns exemplos de casas-pátio cujos levantamentos constam do IAP.
É também um objetivo primordial estabelecer diferenças e semelhanças entre os vários tipos de pátio e entender as conexões deste espaço com as outras áreas da casa.
Para tal procede-se a uma contextualização do conceito histórico-urbano de pátio e à
sua consequente reinterpretação nos séculos XX e XXI. Primeiro na formação das
cidades aquando o seu aparecimento. Segundo na sua função na antiguidade clássica e
reinterpretação no ocidente no século XX.
É feita uma abordagem da tipologia em estudo, no contexto da arquitetura
moderna do século XX, recorrendo a casos específicos de casas-pátio, procurando
interpretar as influências das casas-pátio no IAP na obra de Álvaro Siza Vieira e as suas semelhanças.
This dissertation reflects the role of the patio in the organization of the domestic space in Portuguese contemporary houses, particularly, in four examples of Siza Vieira’s work. There will be a contextualization of the theme addressing the influences of tradition collected through a Survey on Portuguese Traditional Architecture (Inquérito à Arquitetura Popular Portuguesa). The goal is to understand how this housing typology, the courtyard house, can increase the quality of life of Portuguese families, responding to the needs of the current housing and trying to solve conceptual problems of its origin. This dissertation’s goal is also to highlight the importance of this multi-functional space, establishing a relationship between the function of the patio as a whole, characteristic of the single family house in Portuguese Traditional Architecture, using some examples of patio-houses which are listed in the IAP. The establishment of similarities and differences between the various types of patio and understanding the connections of this area with other areas of the house is also a primary objective of this work. For such proceeds the contextualization of the historical-urban concept of patio and its consequent reinterpretation in the XX and XXI centuries. First, in the formation of cities during its appearance. Second, its function in the Classical antiquity and its reinterpretation in the Western world in the twentieth century. An approach of the typology studied in this dissertation is made in the context of modern architecture of the twentieth century, using specific cases of courtyard homes, attempting to interpret the influences of courtyard homes in the IAP, in the work of Álvaro Siza Vieira and their similarities.
