Abstract(s)
O domínio da língua portuguesa assume um papel de absoluta relevância como promotora de saberes indispensáveis à aquisição de outros saberes relacionados com a formação integral do aluno, sendo integrada, no conjunto de competências essenciais de desenvolvimento transversal. As competências linguística e comunicativa; quer na expressão oral como na escrita, são de suma importância durante o percurso académico do aluno e devem permitir a afirmação pessoal daquele, à construção do conhecimento, ao exercício da cidadania e a sua integração na comunidade e no meio académico. Deste modo, o domínio das competências linguística e comunicativa poderá ser decisivo no (In)sucesso académico, no desenvolvimento pessoal e socioprofissional do indivíduo. Constatamos hoje que, muitos alunos que ingressam no ensino superior apresentam debilidades linguísticas preocupantes, o que preocupa a todos os atores no processo de ensino/aprendizagem e exige uma reflexão aprofundada do problema.
Este estudo pretende investigar, no âmbito do paradigma qualitativo, a relação entre a competência linguística e o (in)sucesso académico, na perspetiva dos envolvidos no processo de ensino/aprendizagem,(cadetes, responsáveis do ensino e docentes do ISTM). Através de entrevistas semi-estruturada a oito cadetes que frequentam o 1º ano em diferentes cursos na instituição, a dois responsáveis da instituição e a dois docentes, foram recolhidos dados acerca das suas perceções sobre a importância atribuída às competências linguística e comunicativa no sucesso/insucesso académico, nas razões que estão na base da fraca competência linguística e comunicativa dos alunos, nas práticas que devem ser desenvolvidas no sentido de promover o desenvolvimento transversal e o uso correto da língua portuguesa, e nas estratégias de intervenção que devem ser empreendidas no sentido de promover as competências linguística e comunicativa.
Os resultados indicam que se pode estabelecer uma estreita relação entre a competência linguística dos alunos e o(In)sucesso académico, os entrevistados consideram que as debilidades ao nível da proficiência linguística podem constituir um obstáculo para a compreensão em outras unidades curriculares, à socialização e interação com os pares, à ascensão social e, de modo particular ao insucesso académico.
The command of the Portuguese language assumes a role of absolute relevance as promoter of knowledge indispensable to the acquisition of other knowledge related to the integral formation of the student, being integrated in the set of essential transversal development competences. Linguistic and communicative skills in both oral and written expression are of paramount importance during the student's academic career and should allow for the personal affirmation of the student, the construction of knowledge, the exercise of citizenship and their integration into the community and the academic environment. In this way, the domain of linguistic and communicative competences can be decisive in academic (In) success, in the personal and socio-professional development of the individual. We find today that many students entering higher education have concerning linguistics weakness which worries all the actors in the teaching / learning process and requires a deep, reflection of the problem. This study intends to investigate, within the framework of the qualitative paradigm, the relationship between linguistic competence and academic success, according to those involved in the teaching / learning process (cadets, teachers and ISTM teachers). Through semi-structured interviews with eight cadets who attended the first year in different courses at the institution, two heads of the institution and two teachers, data were gathered about their perceptions about the importance attributed to linguistic and communicative skills in academic success / failure, of the reasons that underlie the weak linguistic and communicative competence of the students, of the practices that must be developed in order to promote the transversal development and the correct use of the Portuguese language, and the intervention strategies that must be developed in order to promote the linguistic and communicative skills. The results indicate that, from the perspective of the interviewees, there is a close relationship between the students' linguistic competence and academic (In) success. They consider that weaknesses in linguistic proficiency may be an obstacle to understanding in other curricular units, to socialization and interaction with peers, to social ascension and, in particular, to academic success.
