| dc.description.abstract | Introdução: Com a pertinência indesmentível da empatia na comunicação médica, mormente no contexto da comunicação de más notícias (CMN), é exigível a adoção de uma abordagem que tenha como alvo a familiarização do utente e/ou da família com as informações comunicadas, considerando, concomitantemente, o estado emocional destes durante o encontro clínico (Witt & Jankowska, 2018). Face ao exposto, e apesar de se verificar um crescimento gradual da investigação nesse âmbito, o volume de estudos é ainda escasso (Domingues, 2015). Objetivo: A presente investigação visa a concretização de uma análise abrangente e sistemática da investigação científica a respeito da temática apresentada, com vista à avaliação da importância da empatia na comunicação de más notícias em contextos de saúde, providenciando um panorama atual da problemática em estudo. Metodologia: Procedeu-se à construção de uma revisão sistemática da literatura (RSL), instituída no domínio da Psicologia, sustentada pelas diretrizes do Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review (PRISMA). A questão de investigação teve por base o modelo definido pelo acrónimo PICO e, para a pesquisa da literatura, foram consultadas fontes disponíveis integralmente nas bases de dados PubMed, Web of Science e EBSCO, atendendo aos requisitos da presente RSL. Resultados: Dos 7 estudos incluídos na RSL, evidenciou-se que o recurso à empatia na CMN em contextos de saúde reduz significativamente o sofrimento emocional dos utentes, melhora a perceção de apoio social, diminui a ansiedade e o stress, e, ainda, facilita a compreensão e a retenção das informações médicas. Paralelamente, possibilita o fortalecimento da relação terapêutica entre os profissionais de saúde e os utentes, promovendo a confiança e a satisfação com o cuidado recebido. Além disso, apurou-se que fatores como a gravidade da situação e as características pessoais dos profissionais influenciam a efetividade da empatia, esta, por sua vez, manifestada através de ações verbais e não verbais. Conclusão: A CMN empática propicia um ambiente convidativo à expressão das preocupações e das preferências dos utentes, sendo considerada uma componente indispensável à prestação exímia de cuidados de saúde. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: With the undeniable relevance of empathy in medical communication, especially in the context of communicating bad news (CBN), it is necessary to adopt an approach that aims to familiarize the patient and/or the family with the information communicated, while also considering their emotional state during the clinical encounter (Witt & Jankowska, 2018). In view of the above, and despite the gradual growth of research in this area, the volume of studies is still scarce (Domingues, 2015). Objective: This research aims to carry out a comprehensive and systematic analysis of scientific research on the subject presented, with a view to evaluating the importance of empathy in communicating bad news in health contexts, providing a current overview of the problem under study. Methodology: A systematic literature review (SLR) was carried out in the field of psychology, supported by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review (PRISMA) guidelines. The research question was based on the model defined by the acronym PICO and, for the literature search, sources available in full in the PubMed, Web of Science and EBSCO databases were consulted, meeting the requirements of this SRL. Results: Of the 7 studies included in the SLR, it was shown that the use of empathy in communicating bad news in healthcare settings significantly reduces the emotional distress of the patients, improves the perception of social support, reduces anxiety and stress, and also facilitates the understanding and retention of medical information. At the same time, it strengthens the therapeutic relationship between health professionals and patients, promoting trust and satisfaction with the care received. In addition, it was found that factors such as the seriousness of the situation and the personal characteristics of the professionals influence the effectiveness of empathy, which in turn is manifested through verbal and non-verbal actions. Conclusion: Empathetic communication of bad news provides an inviting environment for patients to express their concerns and preferences and is considered an indispensable component of excellent healthcare. | eng |
