Abstract(s)
quer participar e estar actualizado.
Our society is called the Information Society or Knowledge Society because we eat, breathe, work and live together through new technology, especially the computer and the Internet. This digital world is not always accessible to everyone due to political, economic or social reasons, but it exists and requires more and more the participation of all for it’s constant construction and maintenance. The current society is aged and needs to be revitalized with social politics for more active and participative elders. One of the strategies for a more active and successful ageing is looking at the new elderly in a different way, because he or she wants to participate and be updated. Alone, he or she can’t but with his or her peers or with other generations, he or she can. For this inclusion to occur, it requires a divulgation and promotion of lifelong learning, especially computers skills. Therefore, the new elder has access to information, spreads and shares information about his reality, in other words, he is participating instead of being a mere spectator of the digital world. Learning is always possible, at any age, as long as there is motivation and the perception of the usefulness of that same learning. Therefore, this investigation was based on a case study, using techniques such as observation, inquiring seniors from the Academies of Covilhã and Fundão that attended classes in computer skills and an interview directed to teachers in that area. The intention of this study was to identify the factors that determine motivation, difficulties and lack of motivation in the senior population when they attend classes or training in computer skills.
