Abstract(s)
Introdução: A Medicina Tradicional e Complementar surge como um novo paradigma
na Medicina, evocando raízes a várias culturas e tradições de forma a garantir a
abordagem total aos seus doentes. Porém, muitas dúvidas ainda pairam sobre este tema,
quer por parte dos seus seguidores, bem como dos seus opositores. Estas temáticas
tornam-se mais evidentes quando abordamos as regiões do Interior de Portugal com
problemas a níveis demográficos, económicos e médicos.
Desenvolvimento: Esta dissertação explorou vários fatores referentes à Medicina
Tradicional e Complementar, como a sua denominação, os seus terapeutas e praticantes,
a sua evolução histórica e os marcos e metas alcançados, quer a níveis legislativos ou
educacionais, bem como as suas características clínicas e propostas futuras. Por outro
lado, foi referenciada a temática do Interior de Portugal, o que comprime, as suas
dinâmicas e especificidades face ao restante país, e os seus fatores de interesse face à
utilização e expansão da Medicina Tradicional e Complementar.
Conclusão: Conclui-se que ainda é escassa a avaliação e caracterização da Medicina
Tradicional e Complementar a nível nacional, sendo essa debilitação mais evidente em
regiões mais interiores do território nacional. Se por um lado é cada vez mais discutida a
importância científica e clínica destas práticas, ainda se encontra bastante fraca a
abordagem holística do impacto da Medicina Tradicional e Complementar nos nossos
territórios, quer a níveis económicos, sociológicos ou culturais. É importante
compreender não só a utilização desta, mas também a sua influência na dinâmica própria
do Interior de Portugal, garantindo, tal como na saúde, que a Medicina Tradicional e
Complementar apenas opera em prol do melhor para o cidadão.
Introduction: Folk and Complementary Medicine urges as a new paradigm inside Medicine, evoking roots to multiple cultures and traditions to guarantee a full approach to his patients. However, many questions still stand over this theme, from the view of his associates, or his opponents. This thematic becomes more evident when we are approaching the deeper regions of Portugal, with their demographic, economic and clinical problems. Development: This work summaries and explores many contributing factors regarding Folk and Complementary Medicine, as his denomination, his workers and associates, his historic evolution, referencing some legislative and educational developments, as well as some of his clinical features and foreshadowing his future. On the other hand, it is explained what the “Interior” is, what regions are englobed by that, its necessities and differences with the rest of the country, as well as its most challenging factors regarding the use and expansion of Folk and Complementary Medicine. Conclusion: It is concluded that it is still scarce an approach to a correct evaluation and characterization at national level of Folk and Complementary Medicine, being this debilitation more severe on the deeper regions of Portugal. If on one side, there is a substantial increase of investigation regarding the efficacy and security of those practices, on the other side there is a deficient approach to the economic, sociologic, and cultural effects of Folk and Complementary Medicine in our country. It is important to understand not just its use, but also its influence on the natural dynamic of the “Interior” of Portugal, ensuring, like on health, that the Folk and Complementary Medicine only works for the benefit of the citizen.
