Abstract(s)
mulher a longo prazo.
publicados na Pubmed, Web of Science (WOS) e SciELO.
Introduction: Abortion is an increasingly debated topic today, not only because it highlights important ethical issues, but also because of the physical and psychological health issues inherent to this procedure. Arguments that show the deleterious effects that abortion can have on women's mental health are often used to justify the legislation applied to it, although they are not scientifically proven. Thus, and based on the scientific studies carried out in this area to date, the objective of this work is to find out if abortion can harm the mental health of women in the long term. Methods and Materials: This systematic review was based on articles published in Pubmed, Web of Science and SciELO. The research was adapted to the characteristics of each of the electronic databases mentioned. Results and Discussion: We selected 34 articles that allowed us to discuss several points, namely, the consequences that induced and spontaneous abortion can have on mental health, the errors found in several published studies and suggestions for future studies. Conclusions: The results seem to be better documented in situations of miscarriage than induced abortion. However, further studies in this area are needed to take account of the different problems identified, so that clearer conclusions can be drawn.
