Abstract(s)
Este trabalho aborda uma questão de relevância capital para um país insular, onde as únicas
portas de saída para outros territórios são pelo ar ou pelo mar. Essa relevância torna-se ainda
mais notória, quando se elegeu o turismo e a transformação do País numa placa giratória para
prestação de serviço ao nível regional, como uma das bandeiras de desenvolvimento
socioeconómico.
Em São Tomé e Príncipe o turismo é uma atividade importante e em crescimento. A
sustentabilidade corresponde a um conceito recente que se pode dizer que veio substituir o de
análise custo/benefício, no que refere à construção e renovação/reabilitação de edifícios. A
noção de sustentabilidade incorpora valores habitualmente não considerados, como os da
proteção ambiental, dos consumos energéticos e da valorização patrimonial.
Os aeroportos são uma peça importante no desenvolvimento regional. Nos tempos atuais, no
desenvolvimento das regiões, as fronteiras são cada vez menos determinantes, as distâncias
cada vez menos limitativas e o Inter-relacionamento de populações e economias é cada vez
maior.
As infraestruturas aeroportuárias surgem assim, neste contexto, com uma importância
acrescida enquanto pólos integradores das diferentes regiões e trunfos importantes na
definição das novas geografias regionais.
A renovação de edifícios, por contraposição à construção nova, deve ser olhada sem perder de
vista os valores antes referidos. Também por razões que se prendem à sustentabilidade da
construção e à renovação de edifícios antigos é hoje uma tarefa de maior importância em todo
o mundo por diferentes razões, sendo elas: a reconstrução de um edifício ou equipamento,
trocando a sua arquitetura conservadora e ultrapassada por uma arquitetura contemporânea e
arrojada, mesmo assim, preservando os seus valores culturais, tendo também em conta a
proteção ambiental e as vantagens económicas.
O estudo e a proposta de intervenção que se propõe realizar no Aeroporto Internacional de São
Tomé e Príncipe vão abranger, em especial, as infraestruturas aeroportuárias, mais
concretamente, o terminal aeroportuário que é a base para o funcionamento dos transportes
aéreos. O trabalho proposto é inovador uma vez que não existe, até ao momento, nenhum
trabalho do género em São Tomé e Príncipe.

The notion of sustainability considers factors that are not usually accounted for, such as environmental protection, energy consumption and equity valuation. Airports are an important part of regional development. Nowadays, the development of the regions, the less determined borders, less restrictive distance and the interrelationship of populations. Proponents the contemporary economy. In this context, airport infrastructures are becoming increasingly important as integrating poles of the different regions and important assets in the definition of new regional geographies. The renovation of buildings, as opposed to the new construction, should be considered without disregarding the point made. Additionally, for reasons of building sustainability, renovating old buildings today are a major task around the world for a variety of reasons, Including the rebuilt of a building or equipment, replacing its conservative architecture, and outdated by a contemporary and bold architecture, nevertheless preserving its cultural values, also taking into account environmental protection and economic advantages. The study and proposed intervention to be carried out will cover, in particular, the airport infrastructures, specifically the airport terminal, which are the basis for the operation of air transport. The proposed work will be innovative, since there is currently no work of this kind in São Tomé.
