Abstract(s)
It is considered that the level of alexithymia can affect the subject's performance in terms of the social skills he/she presents, as their inability to express emotions may have repercussions in the subject's decision-making on the behaviors to adopt in each situation. The concept of social skills refers to the notion of the existence of different types of social behavior in the list that the individual has acquired, through learning, and currently must deal with different interpersonal situations. Alexithymia is a term used during clinical diagnosis to define people with extreme difficulty or inability to express emotions, which can mean “no words for emotions”. Thus, the present investigation proposes to study the relationship between social skills and alexithymia. To this end, we used the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS) to assess the sample's alexithymia levels and the Social Skills Inventory (IHS) to assess the sample's social skills index. The results obtained allowed us to verify the existence of a weak negative correlation between the variables under study, which means that the higher the level of alexithymia presented by the individual, the smaller their repertoire of social skills.
