This dissertation sought to investigate the effect of tacit knowledge in the operational sphere by considering possible tools and appropriate guidelines for management decisions, contributing relevant intangible capital that enables employees to deal with exceptional and unexpected situations, allowing decision-makers to understand possible scenarios and environments, with the aim of establishing different practices that reinforce their competences and improve their performance. With the aim of gauging the use of tacit knowledge to make the best decisions, two research propositions were formulated that seek to answer whether employees use tacit knowledge in uncertain circumstances where similar situations do not exist or if the information available does not serve to clarify the problem. In addition, the literature review made it possible to identify the main themes underpinning this research, related to the effect of tacit knowledge as a useful component in organizational life, by glimpsing how employees deal with exceptional and unexpected situations as an alternative in decision-making. In terms of methodology, an exploratory study of a holistic nature was carried out, gathering information obtained by collecting data through qualitative research and an interpretative inductive understanding of empirical and primary sources in order to answer questions or solve research problems. Using Bardin's (2006) method of analysis, inferences of knowledge relating to the conditions in which these messages were received were obtained from the descriptions of the messages, allowing the researcher to interpret what they perceive, see and hear during the research. From the collection and processing of data in the presentation and discussion of the results, the answers to the questions posed above were identified, with the identification of relevant information through the questionnaire, where 12 indicators were analysed, combined by concepts and a careful construction based on the reaction of the employees glimpsed, providing an answer to the propositions of this investigation. The study concludes with the limitations of the study and recommendations for future lines of research.
