Abstract(s)
comunicação visual no suporte físico
expressiva do objeto editorial físico.
This dissertation investigates the concept of interactivity within the field of print editorial design, with a particular focus on periodical publications, especially magazines. Its primary objective is to understand and explore how interactivity — a strategy traditionally associated with the digital realm — can be transposed and applied to the print medium, enhancing the reading experience by making it richer, more engaging, and more sensorial. Grounded in a critical reflection on the contemporary role of editorial design, the study seeks to analyze and experiment with graphic, structural, and material approaches that encourage active reader participation, thereby expanding the boundaries of visual communication in physical formats. To support this objective, the dissertation follows a theoretical-practical approach. The first phase outlines a conceptual framework for editorial design, addressing the role of the designer, legibility, the concepts of interaction and interactivity, the influence of digital interfaces, and the specific components of magazines. The second phase presents case studies that illustrate interactive practices in print, leading to the development of a typological map of interactive strategies for magazines. In the third phase, a graphic proposal is developed: the redesign of the magazine A Nossa Prima Vai à Madeira, incorporating analog elements that stimulate active reader engagement. The study concludes that interactivity applied to print editorial design offers a valuable opportunity to expand the potential of the medium and to rethink the communicative and expressive functions of the physical editorial object.
