dc.description.abstract	Com a presente tese investigamos a atenção e inteligência em pessoas com incapacidade intelectual. Vários estudos empíricos sugerem que estas pessoas apresentam défices ao nível da atenção, havendo autores que sugerem um défice atencional generalizável. Um funcionamento intelectual prejudicado é dos principais critérios para o diagnóstico desta perturbação. Usando o teste d2, Teste de Perceção de Diferenças e Teste de Barragem de Sinais de Toulouse-Piéron estudamos a atenção e com Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale – III (WAIS-III) investigamos a inteligência. O estudo foi realizado numa amostra de 105 sujeitos com incapacidade intelectual, dos 16 aos 50 anos, que frequentavam instituições vocacionadas para o apoio a pessoas com esta perturbação. Os principais resultados vieram confirmar a presença de desempenhos atencionais muito inferiores na amostra, e que os mesmos variam com a idade, tipo e tempo de frequência da resposta social, anos de escolaridade, grau e etiologia da incapacidade intelectual. Através da análise de correlações, obtivemos evidências de que o teste d2, TPD, Código e Pesquisa de Símbolos da WAIS-III avaliam o mesmo constructo, questionando-se a utilização do TBSTP como medida de atenção nesta população. Com a administração da WAIS-III, obtivemos resultados pioneiros para a população portuguesa com incapacidade intelectual, e através da análise de equações estruturais confirmamos uma estrutura tetra-fatorial. Encontramos ainda indicadores moderados da associação entre estes dois constructos.	pt_PT
dc.description.abstract	With this thesis we investigated the attention and the intelligence in people with intellectual disability. Several empirical studies suggest that these people show deficits in attention, and some authors even suggest a generalized attention deficit. An affected intellectual functioning - intelligence - is one of the major criteria for the diagnosis of this disorder. Using the d2 test, the Perception of Differences Test (PDT), and the Toulouse-Piéron Test (TPT) we studied the attention and with the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale - III (WAIS-III) we investigated the intelligence. The study was conducted on a sample of 105 individuals with intellectual disabilities, aged 16 to 50 years, who attended institutions designed to support people with this disorder. The main results confirmed the presence of very low attentional performances in the sample, and that they vary with age, type and time of frequency of the social response, education level, degree and cause of intellectual disability. Through correlation analysis, we obtained evidence that the d2 test, PDT, Digit Symbol Coding and Symbol Search from the WAIS-III assess the same construct, and we questioned whether the use of TPT as a measure of attention in this population was adequate. With the administration of the WAIS-III, we were pioneer in the collection of data for the Portuguese population with intellectual disabilities, and using structural equation analysis we confirmed its tetra-factorial structure. Moderate indicators of the association between these two constructs we obtained.	pt_PT
