Abstract(s)
cognitivo leve a moderado.
This internship, part of the 2nd year of the Master’s Degree in Sports Sciences, Exercise and Health, at the University of Beira Interior (UBI), was carried out within the MEMO_MOVE program. The internship aimed to collaborate in the implementation of dual-task training programs aimed at elderly individuals with cognitive impairment. Dual-task consists of the simultaneous execution of a motor task (e.g., walking or avoiding obstacles) and a cognitive task (e.g., calculating, naming, or memorizing), thereby promoting the stimulation of both components in an integrated manner. The training program implemented during the internship was structured involving regular sessions (twice a week) over a 6-month period, with exercises adapted to the participants’ abilities. This report will present the practical work developed in the various tasks assigned throughout the internship, with a special focus on the activities of physical fitness assessment, exercise prescription, and supervision of training sessions. Additionally, the report also includes a research introduction chapter, the work of which aimed to determine the effect of an adapted dual-task exercise program on physical fitness and cognitive function in individuals over 65 years of age with cognitive impairment. The study’s results revealed that a 6-month multicomponent dual-task training program did not significantly impact the cognitive function of individuals with mild to moderate cognitive impairment. However, the intervention improved vital aspects of health-related physical fitness, including muscle strength and cardiorespiratory endurance, despite a decline in participants’ perception of their physical functioning.
