Abstract(s)
The present dissertation is divided into two main chapters and is based on the two aspects of my curricular Internship, which is part of the Integrated Master’s in Pharmaceutical Sciences: Research Project and Community Pharmacy. The first chapter refers to research project developed to evaluate the degree of health literacy of Higher Education students of Beira Interior. Health literacy includes the ability of an individual search, understand, interpret and apply basic information about health and services with the final goal to obtain positives results in health. To make this assessment was carried out a questionnaire online to students of three institutions of higher education of Beira Interior: University of Beira Interior, Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco and Polytechnic Institute of Guarda. Low health literacy poses numerous problems both for individual health or to public health presenting as a disadvantage. The low literacy manifests itself on various ways, as the greatest difficulty in following the directions of heath professionals, adhere to the drug therapy prescribed, take the cable change behaviors to promote health. At a time when information is increasingly available more quickly and comprehensively it is essential that the transmission of information in the area of health care is conducted in the best possible way. The preparation of the informational materials should be aware of the degree of health literacy of the target audience, because only then the message will be transmitted in the best way. In the last decades there has been increasing interest in studying health literacy having come to some conclusions very troubling. Numerous studies have concluded that the degree of health literacy is, in some populations, reduced. This may put in question the efforts of health authorities to promote the different measures for prevention of the disease. The second chapter is the result of the internship developed in context of the Community Pharmacy, held at the Pharmacy Borges de Figueiredo. This internship period allowed the understanding, in daily routine, the role and importance of the pharmacists and how their actions contribute to the improvement of the health status of the population assisted by one pharmacy.
