As doenças mitocondriais podem ser devido a mutações tanto no DNA
mitocondrial (DNAmt) como no DNA nuclear (DNAn), são doenças não tão raras como se
pensa (prevalência maior que 1:5000 adultos) e, devido às suas vastas e diferentes
apresentações clínicas, são de muito difícil diagnóstico e tratamento (1, 2). São doenças
passadas à descendência pelo DNA materno e por isso o estudo familiar pode indicar a
presença de alguma doença (1,2). Nesta monografia, para além de apresentarmos o
conceito e genética das doenças mitocondriais, iremos reunir e verificar quais as
apresentações comuns, os melhores métodos de diagnóstico e quais os melhores
tratamentos destas doenças.
The mitochondrial diseases can be the resulto of mutations in the mitochondrial DNA or in the nuclear DNA. They are rare diseases, but not as rare as people think (the prevalence is higher then 1:5000 adults) and, because of their vast and diferente clinical presentations, they are hard to diagnose and to treat (1,2). The mitochondrial diseases are passed by the maternal DNA, so the family study can indicate the presence of a disease (1, 2). In this monography, we will get together and verify the most common presentations, the best diagnostic methods and the best treatments to these diseases.
