A contraceção é um tema que assume grande importância na gestão familiar. Procura-se assim, de forma individualizada, aconselhar o método mais adequado a cada indivíduo. Para isso é necessário garantir a existência de profissionais com formação na área da contraceção.
Este trabalho tem como objetivo principal compreender o nível de conhecimentos dos jovens estudantes de Medicina da Faculdade de Ciências da Saúde, na área da contraceção, como futuros profissionais de saúde. Como objetivos secundários pretendia-se, também, perceber o nível de conhecimentos no momento do ingresso no Ensino Superior tendo por base a região em que o aluno terminou o Ensino Secundário, analisar as diferenças nos conhecimentos ao longo do percurso universitário e entre rapazes e raparigas, caso estas existam, com vista a melhorar a formação prestada. Foi utilizado um questionário, composto por 21 questões que avaliavam diferentes métodos contracetivos e aspetos relacionados com os mesmos. Neste estudo participaram 252 alunos, desde o primeiro ao sexto ano.
De um modo geral, os alunos apresentaram bons conhecimentos relativamente à contraceção, existindo, no entanto, alguns aspetos a melhorar. Observaram-se algumas diferenças nas respostas dadas pelas raparigas e pelos rapazes. Na maioria das questões a evolução de conhecimentos foi notória, essencialmente a partir do 5º ano, como era de esperar.
Em conclusão, tendo em conta os resultados obtidos, é necessário melhorar alguns aspetos na formação de forma a focar aspetos importantes para o futuro profissional dos alunos.
Contraception is a topic with great importance in family management. Thus, in an individualized way, we seek to advise the most appropriate method for each individual. For this it is necessary to guarantee the existence of professionals with training in the field of contraception. This work aims to understand the level of knowledge of young medical students of the “Faculdade de Ciências da Saúde” as future health professionals in the field of contraception. Secondary objectives were also set to help understand the level of knowledge at the moment of entering Higher Education based on the region in which the student finished Secondary Education, analyse the differences in knowledge along the university course and between boys and girls if any, with a view to improving the training provided. A questionnaire consisting of 21 questions assessing different contraceptive methods and aspects related to them was used. In this study 252 students participated, from the first all the way through the sixth year. All in all, the students showed good knowledge in regard to contraception. There were, however, aspects which needed improving. Differences in the responses given were noticeable between both genders. Overall, the evolution of knowledge was notorious, especially students of the fifth year, as expected. In conclusion, taking into account the results obtained, it is clear that necessary improvements have to be made in some aspects regarding training.
