| dc.description.abstract | The House on Mango Street, el icónico libro de la literatura chicana, se trasvasa a la televisión en un formato de miniserie, después de que la escritora mexicoamericana Sandra Cisneros dio su consentimiento al ver la elevada audiencia de las plataformas de streaming y su impacto para el diálogo sobre la inmigración en Estados Unidos. El trasvase de la novela a la pequeña pantalla está en manos de la productora francesa Gaumont, conocida por la serie Narcos (Netflix). La novela es un reflejo de la vida de la autora, quien nació en Chicago en 1954 y es hija de padres mexicanos. El objetivo general de esta investigación es analizar la iconografía de la novela The House on Mango Street para determinar su problemática o facilidad al adaptarla al simbolismo visual de la televisión. Se emplea una metodología de análisis crítico del discurso, junto con el análisis narrativo-simbólico de los elementos clave en la novela: la figura de la mujer ventanera, historias de domesticación y servidumbre, y las barreras raciales, culturales o de clase. Entre las conclusiones, destaca la presencia de mujeres aprisionadas en su hogar, en viviendas desprovistas de una habitación propia, por lo que no cuentan con espacios para la reflexión, ni para la emancipación. Por lo tanto, el rechazo que siente la protagonista por su propio hogar es una metáfora de la hostilidad hacia la identidad que se le ha impuesto. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The House on Mango Street, the iconic book of Chicano literature, is transferred to television in a miniseries format, after MexicanAmerican writer Sandra Cisneros gave her consent after seeing the high audience of streaming platforms and their impact for dialogue on immigration in the United States. The transfer of the novel to the small screen is in the hands of the French production company Gaumont, known for the series Narcos (Netflix). The novel is a reflection of the life of the author, who was born in Chicago in 1954 and is the daughter of Mexican parents. The general objective of this research is to analyse the iconography of the novel The House on Mango Street to determine its problems or ease when adapting it to the visual symbolism of television. A methodology of critical discourse analysis is used, together with the narrative-symbolic analysis of the key elements in the novel: the figure of the window woman, stories of domestication and servitude, and racial, cultural or class barriers. Among the conclusions, the presence of imprisoned women in their homes stands out, in homes without their own room, so they do not have spaces for reflection or for emancipation. Therefore, the rejection that the protagonist feels for her own home is a metaphor for the hostility towards the identity that has been imposed on her. | pt_PT |
