Abstract(s)
Ainda assim, as
Cannabis consumption has been growing exponentially, being the most widely used illicit substance worldwide. In addition to recreational use, there is a growing interest in its therapeutic properties. In Portugal, the use of cannabis for medical purposes was legalized and regulated, and a list of specific therapeutic indications for that use was defined. Cannabis use has been associated with effects on sleep and it’s often used empirically to improve sleep quality. Even so, sleep disorders are not included in the list of therapeutic indications. Based on these observations, recognizing the high prevalence of sleep disorders in general population and identifying the need to improve their control, it is considered that understanding the relationship between cannabis and sleep is extremely relevant for the establishment of actions that contribute to the improvement of sleep quality and the treatment of specific disorders. This study, therefore, aims to clarify the nature of the relationship between cannabis and sleep, clarifying the role of cannabis and its constituents in its quality and architecture and evaluating its possible applicability in specific sleep disorders. For this purpose, updated information on the topic will be gathered, through an exhaustive search in databases and the selection of relevant studies.
