Abstract(s)
Covilhã) enquadrando-o no tema principal.
This work, initially, develops the sense of stating the theme foundation engineering. This is an area which until a few decades ago was, in many cases, neglected and undeveloped. Compared to the same understanding, begins the topic by its own definition, by the opinion of several authors. The following is an explain of its importance and its influence on the buildings, as well as a historical passage of the evolution of the topic and the factors that boosted. In the evolutionary process of foundation engineering was notoriously insufficient geotechnical isolated solutions to meet the safety conditions or other. With this, began to be implemented no isolated solutions, but miscellany of geotechnical solutions increasingly complex. In this paper are presented cases of outstanding works by the amount and complexity of geotechnical solutions adopted and that, on the whole, are the foundation of great works. In a second phase, a study is made of a case of work (Goldra’s inclined elevator, Covilhã) framing it in the main theme. An approach of the work in order to understand their origin and importance for the population, followed by an overview of the same work and geological setting of the area of deployment. It is also characterized geotechnically the massif in which the superstructure is founded on the basis of mechanical tests of exploration carried out "in situ" as well as laboratory testing of soil characterization, performed at the University of Beira Interior, in order to obtain parameters design of geotechnical structures. Finally, is performed a safety assessment of geotechnical solutions adopted, as an isolated element and as a joint solution, using the parameters obtained from the geotechnical characterization of the massif. Some aspects are still evident appreciation of the work, including environmental aspects and landscaped setting.
