Abstract(s)
A dissertação insere-se no projeto de investigação: “Bem-estar e saúde mental em
contexto prisional” e tem como objetivo estudar os fatores relacionados à percepção de
satisfação e bem-estar dos reclusos em contexto prisional português.
Estudos realizados acerca do contexto prisional indicam que a idade do recluso, a
reincidência criminal, relacionamentos, o contato com o meio externo, as atividades na
prisão e a percepção de suporte social estão associados a melhor adaptação do recluso à
prisão e como consequência, aumentam a satisfação do recluso com o estabelecimento
prisional. Como instrumento para coleta de dados, utilizou-se o questionário
desenvolvido no contexto de um projeto europeu, “AWARE: Cross-sectoral awareness
building on mental health needs in the criminal justice system and on release”.
Participaram deste estudo 131 reclusos nos estabelecimentos prisionais portugueses,
todos do sexo masculino, na maioria portugueses (85.3%) e de idades entre 21 e 68
anos.
Observou-se que 51,5% dos reclusos relatam estar satisfeitos de modo geral com a
instituição. Sobre os fatores relacionados à satisfação, a percepção de que os
funcionários da prisão se preocupam com o seu bem-estar mostrou-se um preditor
significativo da satisfação do recluso com a instituição. A percepção de suporte social
também apresentou resultados consideráveis na satisfação com instituição. No que se
refere à idade, verificou-se que são os reclusos mais velhos que apresentam maior
satisfação com a instituição prisional.
The dissertation is part of the research project: “Well-being and mental health in a prison context” and aims to study the factors related to the perception of satisfaction and well-being of prisoners in a Portuguese prison context. Studies carried out on the prison context indicate that the age of the prisoner, criminal recidivism, relationships, contact with the outside environment, activities in prison and the perception of social support are associated with better adaptation of the prisoner to prison and, as a consequence, increase the inmate's satisfaction with the prison establishment. As a tool for data collection, the questionnaire developed in the context of a European project, “AWARE: Cross-sectoral awareness building on mental health needs in the criminal justice system and on release” was used. 131 inmates participated in this study in Portuguese prisons, all male, mostly Portuguese (85.3%) and aged between 21 and 68 years. It was observed that 51.5% of the prisoners reported being generally satisfied with the institution. Regarding factors related to satisfaction, the perception that prison employees are concerned about their well-being proved to be a significant predictor of the prisoner's satisfaction with the institution. The perception of social support also showed considerable results in satisfaction with the institution. With regard to age, it was found that it is the older inmates who are most satisfied with the prison institution.
