O meu projeto para conclusão e obtenção do grau de mestre em Cinema pela
Universidade da Beira Interior, intitulado Ecos da Vermelha, é um documentário sobre
a atividade da resistência ao Estado Novo na cidade de Vila Franca de Xira, cidade onde
nasci e resido. Foca-se sobretudo na atividade das coletividades locais, mas também em
casas particulares, e no seu contributo para uma cultura antifascista.
Para este projeto, recolhi um total de trinta depoimentos, de antigos elementos de
várias coletividades locais como a Secção Cultural do União Desportiva Vilafranquense,
o Ateneu Artístico Vilafranquense ou o Centro Popular Alves Redol, entre outros. Além
destas personalidades, recolhi, para contextualização histórica, o depoimento do prof.
José Costa, historiador local, bem como entrevistas de pessoas relacionadas com outros
locais ou acontecimentos emblemáticos da cidade, como o cais, o Secretariado
Paroquial, as cheias de 1967 ou o Zip Xira, e ainda o depoimento do historiador
Fernando Rosas, que abordou, sobretudo, as greves de 1944.
Tratando-se de uma realidade tão diversificada, de interesse histórico-cultural tão vasto
e envolvendo tanta informação, optei por realizar uma longa-metragem, a qual é
também justificada pela relação de proximidade entre os diferentes locais, que são
explorados numa espécie de percurso detalhado, e de cumplicidade entre muitos dos
intervenientes, cujas vivências se complementam e reforçam mutuamente.
My final project to obtain the master’s degree in Cinema at Universidade da Beira Interior, entitled Echoes of the Red One, is a documentary about the resistance activity against Estado Novo (Portuguese 20th century fascist government) in the city Vila Franca de Xira, where I was born and live. It mainly focuses on the local collectivities’s activities, and in particular houses and its contribution to an anti-fascist culture. To this project, I’ve collected a total of thirty testimonies from ancient elements of several local collectivities like the Cultural Section of União Desportiva Vilafranquense (sports club), Ateneu Artístico Vilafranquense (cultural collectivity) or Centro Popular Alves Redol (cultural collectivity), among others. Besides these personalities I have collected, to historical contextualization, the testimony of the teacher José Costa, local historian, and interviews with other inhabitants about certain emblematic places and events in the city like the city pier, Secretariado Paroquial (church’s department), the floods of 1967 or Zip Xira, a cultural event. Reference also to the Portuguese historian Fernando Rosas who also delivered his testimony, mainly focused on the 1944 strikes. As it is such a diverse reality, with an historical-cultural interest so vast and involving a lot of information, I have chosen to do a feature film justifiable also by the relation of proximity between the different places which are explored on some kind of a detailed route and with the complicity among many personalities whose life’s complete and reinforce mutually.
