Abstract(s)
The current SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) pandemic forced companies to adapt to a new reality. Human Resources Management (HRM), previously discredited by many, had to find solutions to not only protect employees, but also organizations in general. The main objectives of this study were (1) to investigate the impact that the pandemic had on Human Resource Management and (2) understand which strategies, practices and policies were adopted or modified by the HRM in the pandemic context. To respond to these objectives, multiple case studies were carried out. The selected cases were based on 6 (six) selection criteria in the Portuguese territory. As data collection instruments, structured interviews were carried out with human resources professionals from the selected organizations and, as a data processing technique, content analysis. Based on the results obtained in this study, it was concluded that the pandemic had a great impact on HRM of the organizations. Those had to continually adapt to the new reality, modifying their strategies, practices, and policies over time. Teleworking was a practice adopted across all organizations, consequently they had to develop a strategy that would allow employees to work home. It was found that, in some organizations, employees were unable to maintain productivity, largely due to the uncertainty caused by the situation, but also, in the case of teleworking, due to the difficulty of working in a place mentally associated with leisure.
