Abstract(s)
This study aims to analyze gender perceptions on the role of women in organizational leadership. A questionnaire was applied to 186 employees in the different hierarchical positions in sport service organizations. Two dimensions were analyzed, one related to the identification of the stereotypes that label women in the performance of domestic work, family or professional issues, and another dimension to evaluate the role and women's skills as managers/leaders. Through an exploratory factor analysis, three factors were identified in each dimension. Significant differences were found between gender variable and in the different factors except in the factor about the women and family life which has presented a significance level of P = 0.149. The results also point to an increase of women's participation in positions of management/leadership positions, with particular reference to the fact of 94.6% of the participants refer that they have entrepreneurial spirit. It is possible concluded that more women have the necessary conditions to become successful leaders/mangers, although there is a resistance to change in terms of organizational culture, especially in sports context. This study is important for organizations and all involved, but particularly for women, as it shows the different gender perceptions within sport service organizations and it contributes in some way to combat discrimination that still exists in these contexts.
