Abstract(s)
empresa COVIBUS, do grupo AVANZA.
menores recursos financeiros. As melhorias sugeridas, caso venham a ser implementadas
deverão beneficiar consideravelmente o serviço prestado atualmente.
The presented dissertation has as main objective evaluate potential measures that enhance the quality of urban public transport services in medium sized cities (50,000 to 150,000 inhabitants), in particular concerning the costumer/passenger information system. International studies on public transportation systems focuses almost exclusively on large systems with unaffordable costs for medium cities whose size does not allow sufficient financial return for large investments in technology or extensive researches. It thus seems to be a gap in international studies for these medium sized cities that represent the majority of the national context. The present study examines national and international cases of successfully urban public transport system and evaluates the applicability / feasibility of the most common measures with greater potential to improve the service quality, for smaller systems, in particular regarding passengers information. As a case study, the existing system in the city of Covilhã was analyzed, service explored by COVIBUS operator, from the AVANZA group. Regarding the existing system, improvements are suggested considering low cost measures with proven results, duly adapted to smaller cities and systems with less financial resources. The suggested improvements, if implemented will benefit the currently provided service.
