Abstract(s)
apresentados, podemos concluirque as características antropométricas parecem
Organized participation in competitive sports starts earlier and earlier. The literature has reported a strong association between anthropometric characteristics and performance in pure sport swimming. This relationship needs further investigation, in order to clarify its impact on the performance of young swimmers of both genders. This work aimed to verify the impact of anthropometric characteristics on sports performance in infant swimmers in the 50m and 400m freestyle events. There were differences between genders and / or between swimmers of the same gender but at different competitive levels (Children A and Children B). All participants were analyzed for their anthropometric characteristics (body mass, height, wingspan and the body mass index was subsequently calculated) and for their performance of 50m and 400m. 98 swimmers participated in this study, aged between 11 and 13 years (mean ± standard deviation: 12.63 ± 0.76 years of age, 1.59 ± 0.08m in height, 47.11 ± 7.82kg of body mass). All swimmers belonged to the children's category, 48 of which were female and 50 male. In the morning session they performed the performance evaluation in the 50m freestyle and during the afternoon 400m freestyle. Based on the results presented, we can conclude that the anthropometric characteristics seem to influence the swimmers 'performance, when we compare the different genders and the results of this study indicate that the efficiency of the swimmers' segmental movements seems to be related to the anthropometric characteristics, particularly associated with the length of the segments. The maturational state of the swimmers can play a major role in the results found. When comparing genders, the height and weight values of male swimmers tend to be higher and the differences observed in the 50m and 400m freestyle events seem to be related to the influence that anthropometric characteristics have on the biomechanical parameters of swimming for swimming performance.
