Abstract(s)
The present work embraces two activities that integrated the stage realized to obtain the Master´s Degree in Master´s Degree in Sports Sciences – Exercise and Health, throughout the school year, as teacher/coach of crossfit modality, in the CrossFundão and the iniciation to the research with the purpose of studying a strength training program (The Westside Conjugated Method). The purpose of this practical intervention was the development of some skills as crossfit teacher/coach. For that we proceed to the attendance, teaching and supervision both of the classes and the well-functioning of the welcoming entity as well as a training course (CrossTraining) and a workshop (Competition/Skill/Strategy/Nutrition/Rest). A work was also developed with a young boy with X-Fragile Syndrome and a class was held for master’s students in Exercise and Health at UBI. As a result of the internship process a study was carried out to verify the influence of the application of the conjugated training method on the improvement of muscle strength. For this, a strength training program was applied respecting this proposed method and used in the place of internship, for the period of 8 weeks with two evaluations, one before and another after the training. The evaluations were composed of three 1RM tests (back squat, deadlift and bench press). The group consisted of 8 individuals of both sexes (average ± standard deviation: 29.12 ± 6.79 years of age; 1.71 ± 0.11 m in height; 23.97 ± 3.92 kg/m2 of body mass index), who voluntarily participated in the study. The results showed that there was an improvement of 6.8% (p = 0.000) in the bench press, 9.7% (p = 0.001) in the back squat and 8.6% (p = 0.001) in the deadlift, between the first and second evaluation. We may suggest that 8-weeks strength training based on The Westside Conjugated Method causes significant changes in the maximum specific force of the upper and lower limbs. This research initiation work proved to be fundamental to sustain the practice that was usual in the place where the internship was carried out, contributing to complement the training and activities developed, leading the general objective for this internship period.
