Abstract(s)
In recent years, there has been a rapid growth in the use of composites sandwich in engineering applications and this phenomenon will be continuing. However, the residual strength of those materials is largely affected by the damages occurred along the manufacturing process and/or by impact loads that occur during the operational life. This work intends to compare the effect of multi low velocity impacts on composites sandwich, made by fibre glass/epoxy skins and cork core, relatively to the glass fibre/epoxy laminates. It is possible to conclude that the impact strength is higher for composites sandwich, however, this tendency increases when the impact energy decreases.
