This chapter aims to discuss, from a theoretical point of view, some points of intersection between translation studies and Iberian studies, by resorting to Mary Louise Pratt’s concept of contact zone (Pratt, 1991) to do so. Since the chapter is an attempt to provide a rationale for its author’s interest in translation as contact zone between Iberian literatures and cultures, it will try to display a few reasons why the relevance reached by translation in Iberian Studies (Pérez Isasi & Gimeno Ugalde, 2019) appears not only advantageous but also logical. In order to evince that standpoint, the chapter will consider, on the one hand, Iberian Studies calling for not to overlook peninsular heterogeneity, as well as asymmetries, power struggles, tensions, and conflicts involved in the relations between cultures within Iberian geocultural space. On the other hand, the chapter will keep in view the specific nature of the translative interaction, and namely the way, so particular and contradictory, of reception of the Other that it entails.pt_PT
