Abstract(s)
This study sought to highlight the relationship of emotional regulation, which is defined as a set of processes that are responsible for monitoring, evaluation and modification of emotional reactions, with satisfaction with life, defined as a judgment of the quality of life of individuals. based on individual criteria, namely how different dimensions of emotional regulation are associated with higher levels of life satisfaction. The main objective of the present study is, therefore, to understand the relationship that emotional regulation can have in satisfaction with life. The research assumes a descriptive, cross-sectional, correlational type. The sample was collected in person by filling a protocol consisting of a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) created by Diener, Emmons, Larsen and Griffin (1985) and adapted to que portuguese population by Neto, Barros and Barros (1990) and the Emotion Regulation Index for Children and Adolescents (ERICA) created by MacDermott, Gullone, Allen, King and Tong (2010) and validated for the portuguese population by Reverendo (2011). It includes a group of 60 participants aged between 10 and 16 years. (mean =14.03; standard deviation =2.15) with 29 female subjects and 31 male subjects. It was possible to observe through the obtained results, a positive and statistically significant correlation between emotional regulation and satisfaction with life. It has generally been found that higher levels of emotional regulation turn out to be related to the prevalence of satisfaction with life. Younger subjects had higher values of emotional regulation, just as the male subjects obtained a higher score, compared to the female subjects. Already in terms of life satisfaction, female participants scored higher as well as younger subjects. From the analysis of the data and the study sample, it is possible to conclude that the way in which children and adolescents regulate their emotions is associated with their perception of satisfaction with life.
