Abstract(s)
Este documento analisa o jogo The Last of Us (2013) e adaptação televisiva homónima
Posteriormente, é iniciada a análise do jogo e adaptação The Last of Us, utilizando a
This document analyzes the game The Last of Us (2013) and its homonymous television adaptation (2023) to understand the methodology used by the creators for the transposition of material from one medium to another. The analysis aims to identify the beneficial components for a successful adaptation or for a better narrative in video games. Initially, a study is conducted in the theoretical fields of game design, adaptations, and the history of video game adaptations for a better understanding of these themes and factors that may influence the analysis. In game design, various definitions of games and game design, the tasks included in the field, and discussions about the place of narrative in video games are discussed. The adaptation reviews the theories in the field of cinema and literature, identifying the main factors that influence the production of adaptations. Finally, the chapter on video game adaptations recalls this type of work in the medium over time and the different factors that methodologically influence them. Subsequently, the analysis of the game and the adaptation The Last of Us begins, using fidelity as the main evaluation criterion. The analysis compares various aspects of these works, such as narrative, characters, scenarios, sound, and mechanics, to identify changes and similarities between the two materials. Finally, it is concluded that the adaptation of The Last of Us is an example of how the balance between fidelity to the original material and the introduction of new elements can produce a high-quality work. Furthermore, the analysis highlights the importance of adaptation as a work in its own right with links to other texts, and not as a copy of something.
