Abstract(s)
O presente trabalho investiga a transnacionalização da religião brasileira de raiz africana, a
umbanda, com foco na sua expressão na cidade da Covilhã, Portugal, através da perspectiva
dos imigrantes brasileiros praticantes dessa fé. Inicialmente, uma revisão bibliográfica é
realizada para embasar o estudo, destacando a história e a expansão da umbanda, além de
temas como racismo e discriminação religiosa.
Em sequência adentraremos no contexto migratório e religioso em Portugal, incluindo a
presença significativa de igrejas evangélicas brasileiras no contexto português. Observa-se
que a internet desempenha um papel fundamental na vida desses imigrantes, sendo crucial
para suas atividades migratórias e religiosas. O que se pretende com estes recortes temáticos
é compreender os aspectos que permeiam e interferem a experiencia do umbandista em
situação migratória.
Após esta apresentação contextual, concentramos nosso olhar para o local do estudo, o
interior de Portugal, mais especificamente a Covilhã, destacando as particularidades sociais
e religiosas dessa região.
No final, são realizadas entrevistas semi-diretivas com os umbandistas imigrantes
brasileiros na Covilhã, procuramos explicitar o modo como a umbanda se manifesta
fenomenologicamente nesse contexto específico. Os relatos dos participantes são
compilados e analisados para compreender melhor a adaptação da umbanda na Covilhã.
Em suma, o estudo visa fornecer uma compreensão mais profunda da experiência de uma
minoria religiosa em um contexto migratório no interior de Portugal.
This work investigates the transnationalization of the Brazilian religion with African roots, Umbanda, focusing on its expression in the city of Covilhã, Portugal, through the perspective of Brazilian immigrants who practice this faith. Initially, a bibliographical review is carried out to support the study, highlighting the history and expansion of Umbanda, as well as themes such as racism and religious discrimination. Next, we will delve into the migratory and religious context in Portugal, including the significant presence of Brazilian evangelical churches in the Portuguese context. It is observed that the internet plays a fundamental role in the lives of these immigrants, being crucial for their migratory and religious activities. The aim of these thematic excerpts is to understand the aspects that permeate and interfere with the experience of Umbanda in a migratory situation. After this contextual presentation, we focus our attention on the study location, the interior of Portugal, more specifically Covilhã, highlighting the social and religious particularities of this region. In the end, semi-directive interviews are carried out with Brazilian immigrant Umbanda supporters in Covilhã, we seek to explain the way in which Umbanda manifests itself phenomenologically in this specific context. Participants' reports are compiled and analyzed to better understand Umbanda's adaptation in Covilhã. In short, the study aims to provide a deeper understanding of the experience of a religious minority in a migratory context in the interior of Portugal.
