Abstract(s)
Introduction: Pregnancy represents a vulnerable period in a woman's life, with numerous biological and psychological changes that can affect the way a woman perceives her body and consequently influence her eating patterns, initiating or worsening inappropriate eating behaviours. Currently, eating disorders have a major impact on society, around 7.5% of women have an eating disorder during the gestational period. Therefore, it is important to understand the implications of these disturbances in women's health and the fetal consequences involved, as well as the implications in the postpartum, and what strategies and guidelines exist for adequate management and surveillance of this particular population. Objective: To investigate the occurrence and influence of eating behaviour disorders during pregnancy and breastfeeding, to understand whether complications differ depending on the subtype, and to know what tools currently exist to diagnose, guide and treat this group of women. Methods: It was made a review of the scientific literature, using the PubMed and Google Scholar databases as search engines. Articles from the last ten years were searched, but priority was given to the most recent ones. Conclusion: Eating behaviour disorders are related to worse obstetric and neonatal outcomes, and negatively influence breastfeeding, with results differing according to the subtype. Therefore, health professionals must pay particular attention to possible signs, in order to enable early identification and subsequent prevention of future complications. Once this pathology is diagnosed in this specific group of women, a multidisciplinary intervention is essential, ensuring its continuity even after childbirth.
