Abstract(s)
conhecer o estado atual do individuo.
Statistical Package of Social Science (SPSS) 22.0. Para se obterem os resultados foram
realizados métodos estatísticos padronizados, Teste Shapiro-Wilk e paired T-test. Feita
During the master’s degree in Sports Sciences, mainly focused on Exercise and Health, it was possible to intern at Best Fit, a gymnasium located in Viseu, Portugal. The objective of this internship was to develop the abilities needed so that there is an autonomous intervention when passing through the different tasks needed at a gymnasium. These tasks included supervising the weight training room, evaluating and prescribing physical exercise, teaching group classes, customer service (reception work), cleaning, and opening and closing the facilities. Physical exercise in a gymnasium context allows the activity to be performed in a controlled and save environment, in order to optimize the benefits, maximize the gains and prevent the risk of injury. In this document, a brief revision of the literature regarding the benefits of physical exercise, the principals of training and the several types of workout in a gymnasium context, its prescription and the many evaluations that can be done to get to know an individual’s current state was made. During the mentioned internship, research work was also developed. This research consisted in a transversal study, with a sample made up of 8 individuals with experience in strength training, with the intention of verifying the physiological responses to a typical muscular strength workout of bench press and squat. The participants were evaluated in four sessions. In the first and second sessions, the maximum weight the subjects could move properly was evaluated (1RM). In the third and fourth sessions, the heart rate (FC), the blood lactate concentration ([La-]), the systolic blood pressure (PAS) and the diastolic blood pressure’s (PAD) responses 1 minute after the exercise were registered. The software used for the data analysis was Microsoft Office Excel 2007 and for the statistical analysis was Statistical Package of Social Science (SPSS) 22.0. To obtain the results, were used standardized statistical methods, Shapiro-Wilk Test and paired T-test. Once the analysis is completed, we are able to conclude that a series of typical muscular strength workout causes significant alterations in the subjects’ physiological response. That response regarding TAS, TAD, FC and [LA-] tends to be superior in the squat workout.
