Abstract(s)
âmbito do Desporto/Saúde.
apresentam distorções posturais significativas, nomeadamente assimetrias e desalinhamentos
In Europe 20 or 30% of grown-ups ate affected by muscle skeleton pains. In Portugal about 1,2 million of persons have backache every week. Postural problems become evident in the course of growing. It is fundamental to proceed with evaluation in young persons in order to apply prevention measures, education habits and right style of life. As there are no information relevant about posture characteristics of Portuguese university students, purpose of this work of investigation is to proceed with characteristics analysis in a way to; (1) be well acquainted of posture problems and distortions of this population and relationship with their life and athletics habits. (2) make evident and show clearly the importance of posture in a health promotion and education argument. (3) increase the value of need to integrate postural evaluation in Sport/Health activities as an instrument of diagnosis to add to other evaluations. Sample has been composed of 40 students of Sports Science Degree of “Beira Interior University” with 21 women and 19 men of medium age of 22 (±2) and corporal mass index of 22 (±3) kg/m2 . It has been used the protocol of statics posture evaluation proposed by Muscolino (2006) and dynamic developed by Clark (2001). Data have been obtained using a posturalgrip and a shooting camera. The majority of young university persons (88%) have serious postural distortions namely asymmetries and body deviations on shoulders and iliac spines registering more cases by female (57%) whose postural asymmetries are located specially on right side (p<0,05). Scoliosis is the modification of vertebral column predominant curve shape 52,5% of sample followed by hyperlordosis (25%) and hyperkyphosis (17,5%). Scoliosis rate occurrence has been similar either by male or female. However more men presented cases of hyperkyphosis (86%) characterized by fore rotation of shoulders and hip retroflexion and women presented more cases (86%) of hyperlordosis associated to high values of hip foreflexion, inward knees rotation and pelvic instability. That is why results apply for an urgent need to develop a specific work with university people based on body perception, neuromuscular rebalance and postural education so as to defend their well being and life style. Postural evaluation is a major instrument for diagnosis and must always be esteemed when orientation sportive/health activities demands.
