Abstract(s)
The COVID-19 pandemic led to drastic changes in the daily lives of families. This study aims to explore the experience of Portuguese parents of preschool-age children during the pandemic, identifying the difficulties and what helped them to overcome the demands of the situation. A qualitative study was conducted with nine mothers and a father of children aged between 3 and 5 years old, through semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed using a thematic analysis, which allowed the identification of six themes: changes in family life, the impact on the child, challenges to parenthood, the support from systems, the appraisal of the experience and the positive outlook. The different impacts of the pandemic are discussed and possible clues for intervention and investigation with families with preschool-age children are suggested.
