O presente trabalho de investigação visa analisar a variação e a mudança linguísticas do
Português Europeu, com foco na zona da Beira Baixa. O estudo examina o falar da
região em termos fonéticos, morfossintáticos e lexicais, tendo por objetivo
compreender como esses elementos contribuem para a identidade linguística local e
como os mesmos têm evoluído ao longo de um período estipulado de cerca de 50 anos,
com início em 1970 até à atualidade, entre falantes naturais da Beira Baixa de faixas
etárias distintas. Utilizando uma abordagem sociolinguística, são analisados dados
linguísticos recolhidos (por meio de entrevistas e de um questionário) em áreas rurais
da região. Os resultados revelam padrões relevantes de variação e mudança,
destacando influências históricas, sociais e geográficas na configuração do falar da
região. Desta forma, o trabalho contribui para uma melhor compreensão da diversidade
linguística em Portugal, bem como para o estudo da dinâmica dos falares regionais,
tendo como principal foco o falar da Beira Baixa.

The study examines the region's speech in phonetic, syntactic, and lexical levels, aiming to understand how these elements contribute to local linguistic identity and how they have evolved over a stipulated period of around 50 years, from 1970 to the present day, among Beira Baixa native speakers of different age groups. Using a sociolinguistic approach, linguistic data collected (through interviews and a questionnaire) in rural areas of the region is analysed. The results reveal relevant patterns of variation and change, emphasising historical, social, and geographical influences in determining how people speak in the region. In this way, the study contributes to a better understanding of language diversity in Portugal, as well as to the study of the dynamics of regional languages, particularly Beira Baixa.
