| dc.description.abstract | Introdução: A Estimulação Magnética Transcraniana repetitiva (EMTr), é uma técnica de estimulação do sistema nervoso que tem a capacidade de moldar a excitabilidade neuronal para além da ocasião em que o procedimento é executado. Devido a esta característica, esta técnica tem sido usada no tratamento de doenças psiquiátricas e neurológicas. Este estudo tem o intuito de procurar entender a resposta auditiva à estimulação magnética transcraniana no córtex temporal direito. Métodos: 19 voluntários saudáveis foram avaliados com audiometria antes e após serem sujeitos a EMTr. Após análise dos resultados das audiometrias iniciais foram formados 2 grupos. No Grupo A ficaram os participantes com resultados nas audiometrias dentro da média esperada para a idade e foram comparados com os do grupo Controlo/Sham pré-existente. No Grupo B ficaram os voluntários com resultados divergentes do esperado, sendo os resultados das audiometrias pré e pós estimulação comparados entre si. Todos estes voluntários foram submetidos a estimulação Theta Burst intermitente. A audiometria avaliou o limiar de audição nas frequências de 250Hz, 500Hz, 1000Hz, 2000Hz, 3000Hz, 4000Hz, 6000Hz e 8000Hz para perceber a resposta à estimulação. Resultados: Foram encontradas diferenças significativas entre o Grupo A e Controlo/Sham nas frequências de 1000 e 4000Hz. Não foi encontrado nenhum resultado relevante no grupo B. Não foram registados efeitos secundários major. Conclusão: Parece haver um aumento do limiar de audição após estimulação magnética transcraniana- iTBS nas frequências 1000Hz e 4000Hz em indivíduos com audição normal. O pequeno número de voluntários pode limitar a extrapolação destes achados. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | Repetitive transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is a nervous system stimulation technique that has the ability to shape neuronal excitability beyond the time the procedure is performed. Because of this feature, this technique has been used in the treatment of psychiatric and neurological diseases. This study aims to understand the auditory response to transcranial magnetic stimulation in the right temporal cortex. Methods: 19 healthy volunteers underwent audiometry before and after transcranial magnetic stimulation. After analyzing baseline audiometry results, 2 groups were formed. In Group A were the participants with audiometry results within normal results and they were compared with those in a pre-existing control/sham group. In Group B, the volunteers had results that were different from those expected, and the results of pre and post stimulation audiometries were compared to each other. Both these volunteers were subjected to intermittent Theta Burst Stimulation. Audiometry evaluated the hearing threshold in the frequencies of 250Hz, 500Hz, 1000Hz, 2000Hz, 3000Hz, 4000Hz, 6000Hz and 8000Hz to perceive the response to stimulation. Results: We found statistically significant differences in the frequency of 1000Hz and 4000Hz after iTBS in group A, when compared with the control/sham group. No relevant results were found for group B. No major side effects were reported. Conclusion: There seems to be an increase in hearing threshold after transcranial magnetic stimulation in frequencies 1000Hz and 4000Hz in in individuals with normal hearing. The small number of volunteers may limit the extrapolation of these findings. | eng |
