Nos últimos anos, o consumo de esteroides anabolizantes tem crescido exponencialmente.
Não obstante, o seu consumo crónico acarreta inúmeras consequências a nível do sistema
cardiovascular, endocrinológico, psicológico e genitourinário. O presente trabalho
prende-se com uma revisão sistemática sobre os efeitos dos esteroides anabolizantes na
fertilidade masculina; de que forma afetam a produção e qualidade espermática; e os seus
efeitos na função sexual, nomeadamente a correlação com a disfunção erétil e a redução da
libido. Sendo esta uma temática tão prevalente e tão pouco estudada é importante referir
que estas substâncias são frequentemente vendidas de forma ilegal em plataformas de
comércio eletrónico sem prescrição médica e discutir perspetivas futuras para solucionar o
problema, tanto a nível do controlo da venda livre, como terapêuticas de tentativa de
reverter ou melhorar os efeitos colaterais nos consumidores.
In recent years anabolic steroid consumption has grown exponentially. Nevertheless, chronic consumption has numerous consequences in the cardiovascular, endocrine, psychological and genito-urinary system. The present work relates to a systematic review of the effects of anabolic steroids on male fertility, how it affects the entire sperm production and quality and its effects on sexual function including correlation with erectile dysfunction and libido decrease. This being such a prevalent and so less studied theme it is important to note that these substances are often sold illegally on e-commerce platforms without medical prescription and discuss future issues to solve the problem, both in terms of free selling control, and therapeutics to try to reverse or improve the consumers side effects.
