Abstract(s)
Neste contexto, o papel do
inferior e aptidão cardiorrespiratória no início do 1º período do ano letivo 2020/2021, e
no final do 1º período.
modalidades desportivas coletivas, modalidades desportivas individuais, fitness e
p = 0.59) e no salto horizontal (F = 0.12, p = 0.73), somente no teste de vaivém (F =
do Desporto.
Even though a healthy lifestyle can bring many benefits to health, several epidemiological studies identify an increase in the prevalence of physical inactivity in children and teenagers. In this context, the role of physical exercise performed in the school context becomes fundamental for the encouragement of beneficial behaviours towards individual health and well-being. At school, students have several subjects, with different schedules and contents. Thus, the present study aimed to verify the effect of different weekly hours of a physical activity practice, for 11 weeks, on the levels of physical aptitude of the Nazaré’s Vocational School students. The sample consisted of 42 students of both sexes, aged between 17 and 19 years. Of these 42 students, 23 belonged to the Sports vocational course (17 male and 6 female) and 19 from the Cook and Pastry vocational course (11 male and 8 female). To assess physical aptitude, students were assessed for upper strength, abdominal strength, lower-limbs strength and cardiorespiratory fitness at the beginning and the end of the 1st period of the 2020/2021 school year. During this period, the Sports vocational course had a weekly practical component of 13 hours, corresponding to the subjects of collective sports, individual sports, fitness and bodybuilding and physical education. The Cook and Pastry vocational course had a weekly practical component of 2 hours, corresponding to the subject of physical education. There were significant improvements in the values of upper-strength, abdominal, lower-strength and cardiorespiratory fitness in the students of the Sports vocational course (p = 0.01) and the Cook and Pastry vocational course (p = 0.02). Comparing both courses, no differences were observed in the pushups (F = 2.50, p = 0.12), sit-ups (F = 0.29, p = 0.59) and in the horizontal jump (F = 0.12, p = 0.73). Only in the shuttle test (F = 8.90, p < 0.01) there were higher gains in the Sports vocational course students. The results suggest that, despite the improvements in strength and cardiorespiratory fitness being evident in every class of the secondary vocational courses, the group with the highest weekly physical exercise practice has greater gains in cardiorespiratory fitness.
